System Description

Dry method of installing underfloor heating UNIVENTA® INTEGRA is designed for low floor height design and to reduce overall weight load. It is an ideal replacement of concrete and anhydrite screeds. Wet methods are not suitable for wooden floors, as the mass of concrete screed is about 130 kg /m2.This represents a masive weight of 2.6 tonnes per 20 m2. Flooring System UNIVENTA® INTEGRA has weight of 38.25 kg /m2 and the total structural height of 55 mm.

“Dry” floor heating is used primarily in renovations and wherever a flexible thermal response is needed – ie, less thermal inertia, shorter start up time and therefore more flexible control of room temperature. The floor surface will reach 23°C within 30 minutes of start up. Compared to traditional 110 minutes when using “wet” screed. This results in significant energy savings and better reaction to change of room temperature.Heating time diagram

Dry method is ideal for:

  • bearers and joists floor constructions
  • renovations
  • new houses
  • whenever low  floor construction height  is needed to install underfloor heating

METHODS OF SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION

Prior to the system installation the foundation concrete mat must be levelled, for example by FERMACELL or LIAPOR subbase

The UNIVENTA dry floor heating system consists of a hardened polystyrene board (1) with pre-extruded grooves. The grooves serve for laying heat conducting distribution metal plates (2) that are adapted for fastening the UNIVENTA pipe of Ø14x2 mm or Ø16x2 mm (3). The function of the heat conducting metal plates is to conduct heat from the heating pipe to the top floor layer - UNIVENTA CERAPUR* tile flooring (4). There is thin PE foil (5) placed between the top flooring and heat conducting metal plates. Perimeter walls are separated from the floor by a perimeter expansion strip (6).

The composition of the floor heating structure is the same as for the previous system. However, the top layer of the floor is constructed FERMACELL which is a special sandwich gypsum fibreboard.

This system consists of a special gypsum fibreboard with a shiplap with pre-milled grooves for laying UNIVENTA pipes PE-RT Ø8x1 mm. The floor thickness is only 22.5 mm (without insulation). The boards are glued together with FERMACELL glue.

The basis of dry floor heating is a top-class UNIVENTA RADIANOXY pipe with a polybutylene core which is perfectly flexible. The pipe consists of100% aluminium oxygen barrier

The second option is to use UNIVENTA PE-RT tubes with a core from heat-resistant polyethylene. The tube also contains an EVOH oxygen barrier

Pipes for INSPIRE dry floor heating

A five-layer UNIVENTA PE-RT tube Ø8x1 mm is installed into grooves pre-milled in the INSPIRE board. UNIVENTA PE-RT tube Ø16x1.8 mm is designed for distribution systems with a heating circuit while it is connected to the Ø8x1 mm tube using special quick-release couplings. The core of both tubes is made of heat-resistant polyethylene and is protected against oxygen diffusion using a special chemical EVOH treatment. The tube surface is protected by a polyethylene sleeve.

When installing dry floor heating we recommend observing the following rules:

  • Each floor element must correspond to the maximum permissible load (base, additional insulation, system board, floor boards, etc.). This condition has to be taken into account when designing a suitable floor structure to which a relevant assembly corresponds.
  • The maximum start-up temperature must not exceed 55 oC, respectively the max. value for an appropriate pipe type (whichever of them is lower).
  • Place a perimeter expansion strip along the perimeter walls of the room.
  • CREATON tile flooring has to be laid absolutely level. In case of unevenness it is necessary to level the surface using the screed with a plasticizing effect, or to use a subbase.
  • Lay FERMACELL floor boards left to right with interlocking.
  • FERMACELL floor boards are characterized by a very small volume changes and therefore the boards of the length and width of up to 20 m do not need to be dilated. Door transitions require no further dilation. Floor boards must correspond to the expansion
    joints of the rough construction.
